What's for supper?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

It is cold and snowy, a day that just cries out for a pot of soup! I think I am going to make potato soup. I have a small piece of ham to cut up, then I will add some potatoes, celery, and carrots. I will serve it with corn bread. What's for supper in your neck of the woods?

Easy meal. I'm taking Marques and Jalynn back to Indy so super will be sausage for Gary eggs, home-canned potatoes with onions in butter and homemade chunky apples.

We will have a no fuss meal of roast beef with all the "trimmings" today. We are all home today ,even my eldest married son and the weather will be very mild so we will spend as much time as possible out side.We live in the middle of IL.the temp is suppose to be in the 50's today and 60's tommorow.

Meatloaf, mashed taters and fried okra, corn bread with layered salad or cole slaw.

It's damp and rainy here (had our share of snow earlier) so it's a good day for soup. I froze the turkey carcass from Thanksgiving, and have a bunch of misc. vegies from a vegie tray that I need to use up, so that'll be easy. Will make homemade rolls to go with it.

I tried a new soup recipe last night. It was winter squash soup(from the Oprah website) wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was low fat and creamy and tasty. Maybe we should start a thread with our favorite soup recipes? Or do we have one and I am having a senior moment?

We don't have one that I know of, so feel free to start it if you want!

Like Willa we're having a beef roast with the "works". The temperature is in the 50's (almost unbelievable) and it's too nice to be inside so the roast is in the crockpot and I'll add the potatoes and carrots afterwhile.

I have bantam eggs comming out of my ears--------the ref is full!!!! So I'm going to do deviled eggs----mac & cheese salad/ with eggs-- bean salad with eggs---(well you get the idea)---lots of salads with lots of eggs----& some without----I have a busy next few days comming up & we love salads---they keep well & it is easy to pull them out & make a meal out of salads---not knowing what time we can always eat--

It is easy to have soup & salads or sandwiches & salads--etc-----so that is what we are haveing for supper----& tomarrow & maybe the next day----ha! I'm makeing a fresh fruit salad----& several other favorities ---so we get a mixture----& I will still use up some eggs & we will get our protein!!!! ha! Eggs are boiling now!!!!

I had to laugh Sonda, somtimes I get a lot of eggs and I am trying to think up thigs to fix! I love potato salad with boiled eggs and homemade dill pickles in it. We also fix omlettes sometimes for supper, which I may do one night this week.

Melisa-----Hubby says one more omlette & he is going to start crowing!!!! ha! I went in on www.foodgeeks.com & typed in the ingredient--"EGGS" -- well there were a few hundred recipes for eggs----

But man /it is hard to try to decide how many bantam, pullet eggs you need to make an angel food cake!!!! ha!!

Hubby says we don't need any more chickesn!!!! But he is the one who sat the incubator the last two times!!! ha!!

I have about 20 more roosters than I need-----but they are all sooooo neat----& we hatched all of them out--- & they are my babies---

Some are bantam & silkie & other mixes---all have the feathers down their leggs & on their feet/ most have top knots---all colors---just tooo darn cute!!!! And smart!!!! ha!

But I'm still peeling eggs & makeing salads!!!! later Sonda

Your chickens sound really neat! I guess it would be kind of fun to hear your husband crow!!!

Seems that when I post what we're having for supper, it always changes. Gary had the above, but I didn't want eggs, so I had a porobello mushroom sandwich instead, with soy cheese, mayo onions and a little worchestershire sauce. Yum Yum

isn't it one egg=one-quarter cup? my mother always used 13 eggs for angel food cake and made a sponge cake at the same time. she did not grease the pan for angel food - said it needs to cling to the sides, or fall.

I'm thinking oyster stew [from canned] with cornbread. add onions, potatoes, celery after sauteing in oil.

Tonight we are having chili, peanut butter sandwiches and a bowl of sliced up oranges.
