Unfortunately it is Valencias Argentinian CB Roberto Ayala.

Lilian Leslandes is also off from the makems to Cologne, suppose it will smell better!

isn't Ayala the one who is 35 ? He played against Celtic and was fantastic, hard, tight marker, had the air of someone prepared to break a leg or two if required, spot on.

Or was that Marcelino ?

Ayala was born in 1973 which would be why they are rumoured to be offering 10mil+.

Sky said £10.64M (or was it £10.46M?) offer turned down. Will they up the price? I guess they can afford it, even if it means not going for Di Cannylad. Of the two, I'd certainly say they need a decent CB far more than Di Cannylad. They're probably OK to push for the EPL with what they've got. But if Fergie wants to win the CL, then he needs a decent CB (or two!!) PDQ.

I played in Newcastle...in my CM-team. I think he's around 30, not 35.

Apparently this is 4x what Valencia payed Inter for him, yet they say it's not even opening the envelope to read the offer. (So how do they know how much it is, if you get my drift?) Do you suppose they're just stalling until they can get a replacement??? Please!

Do you suppose Taggart has a hidden agenda? Another Argie to help Veron settle? Perhaps he's also after Batistuta to replace Yorke. And Maradonna as a replacement for Beckham?

Well, if they want another Argentinian, they could take Bassedas off our hands quite cheaply: he played with Veron for the national U21s, you know....

-- Anonymous, January 08, 2002

No, I didn't know that. But I do now - unless you're lying. Anyway, Bassedas still has a future at Toon. He's only gone to Spain to sort out Farcelino's return. If he does so, it'll be the biggest Christian miracle since Lazarus was raised from the dead. Hey, d'ya think he could raise Farcelino from the dead, or is he too long gone??

No, Christian was in the Ronnie talking about it before the Mancs at home game. He said that Shearer and Solano were, in their own ways, as good as Veron....

Well I've seen JSV play twice against us this season. In all honesty, if hadn't known who he was, and that he cost £28m, I'd have been suggesting he was an utter tosser(©)!
