Dwight Yorke to the Makems

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

This is looking more and more likely. Actually, I quite rate him, so it's a bit sad to see him signing for the Makems. He should be a bit rusty after being out of the picture at OT and, at just past 30, he's not one for the future, but he could just about turn around their season.

If the figures being quoted are correct, I'm slightly surprised that we haven't been connected with him at least although the entire world seems to know we are after two CMs but will put up with one.

We might see a bit more of Jordan in the North East if this happens - although I suspect there's not a lot more to see.

I thought Jordan (MJ) was already in the North East (Washington D.C.!)?

MJ will never be as big as Dwight's girl

I suspect DW may be a spent force - or least one who has lost his motivation through financial security and numerous medals.

I suppose a move could recharge his batteries, but if the fee is anything like the £8m I've seen quoted he would be a huge gamble. Better the mackems take it than us.

Clarky, I don't want him but I'm surprised the press doesn't think we want him... Apparently he wants a 4 year contract at 50K a week as well (who the f...k does he think he is?).

dougal - I'd be absolutely amazed if anyone offered him either a 4yr contract or anything like £50k pw. If that is what he is currently earning for doing next to nowt, then I can understand his lack of motivation. This is a real problem that those in authority within football will need to face up to, sooner or later.

Certainly, if they are his demands then I can't see him joining the mackems - I reckon they've got more sense.

Apart from a very good start at ManUre, what has DW done (on the football pitch) since his move from Villa? Before that, he used to out the sh!ts up me every time he played against us. You just knew he was gonna score one (or three!) against us. But since then, he's gone downhill very rapidly. I think Clarky's hit the nail on the head. The suucess and kudos of a move to ManUre has gone to his head. If AC left for circa £8M (I think that's what B'burn paid), than DW is worth no more than £5M. But I wouldn't want to see us waste even that amount on him.

As for his wage demands, well, I guess paternity suits cost a canny bit these days (allegedly).

Well, he played a major part in their Treble, certainly in terms of league goals, but his star appears to have waned since then.

I would imagine that his best bet would be la Liga - clubs like Sunderland and Villa would have to break a lot of wage caps to sign him and Boro are the only team that stand out for signing talented but aging mercenaries at inflated wages.

Who's this "DW", clarky and Screacher are on about?

Have I lost the plot (wouldn't be the first time!)?

Jet lag?

Stupid boy! Of all folks, I'd have thought you would know Derek Whiteside, super star :-( That is who you meant, isn't it Clarky? Or was it Dud Wiser?

-- Anonymous, January 10, 2002

Screach, I do happen to know Derek Whiteside (not as fugly as his nephew Norman!) but I still don't get yout DW?

Come on spill the beans, typo?

-- Anonymous, January 10, 2002

-- Anonymous, January 10, 2002

"first mate"? lol

-- Anonymous, January 10, 2002

.... me @rse could be extremely wrinkly by then - if your waiting for your extremely cheap Kodak digicam to arrive Bud!

I was just following Clarky's lead. Ooh - did I imply Clarky's a dog? Woof!

-- Anonymous, January 10, 2002

Actually clarky I've just paid about 500 quid for a 4.1 mega-pixel Sony digital camera, it should do me for about 3 months, before it becomes obsolete :-(

As for Fenwick's winda your safe, at least from MY flash, ' don't expect to be back in the U.K. for some time.
