Just too awful to contemplate for any new parent.

I feel so desperately sad for them both.

Terrible news. Puts things into perspective.

The worst that can happen to any parent. I am not English, not into party politics, but the thought alone kept me awake last night.

Desperately sorry for the Browns.

It would have been upsetting at the best of times, your children shouldn't die before you, but what made it worse was having seen the change in Gordon Brown when she was born. Gordon Brown is the epitome of a dour Scot, fits the bill as a Fife MP, never looking to be happy unless there is some bloody good reason for it, and then his instinct is still to be reticent about it. When the baby was born it was like 50 years of solitude had been ripped off him, his face was alive, he, himself, was reborn into a happier body. For the first time ever I saw him as a potential Prime Minister. The photo this morning of him was so sad.

The photo on today's Journal's front page - taken through a car window - of them leaving the hospital is fecking voyeurism at its worst.

Unfortunately, the media are not a tap to be switched on and off when desired. Obviously Brown was a proud father (who wouldn't be?) but given the delicate balance of such a premature birth, perhaps the big press announcements wasn't best advised.

No, I'm not saying 'told you so' - losing ones child must be one of the worst things to happen to a person.
