Red Top Chick Farms : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Thanks for all the answers to my post on Murray McMurray. Has anyone ever ordered from Red Top Chick Farms, how did you find that company. They have a very low price for 100 heavy breed birds (about $20 plus shipping and handling). They used to advertise in Countryside but I didn't find them in the last issue.

Thanks - Kim

Hi Kim, I ordered the Silver laced black giant cockrels from them last year and they were great. I ordered 100 got 102, let a friend have half the order. We each had less than 30.00 a piece in them. I butchered 20 of them a 8 weeks old and the rest a week later. The best chicken I've ever eaten. All the chicks where alive and healthy when I picked them up from the post office. To say the least of was very pleased. I will order from them again this year.

This is from March/ April 2001 Countryside Magazine...Red Top Hatchery, P.O. Box 100 ,Mariett, PA 17547 Phone 717 426 341 . My order came under the name of Reich poultry.

I phoned them and they gave me the same price as in their 2000 adds of $19.95 for 100 heavy breed straight run. They do not have a web site. The lady answered the phone Reich so perhaps they have changed their name? She said she would get a brochure out to me today. They also have ducks and turkeys but she wasn't sure of the price since the brochures were just coming from the printers (I guess they just let the printers set the price he he).

Re: Red Top Chick Farms I dated a red top chick once. She was Irish and boy-howdy did she have a temper! I don't know if she farms, tho. --Happy trails, CF

did a search also,, dint even get anything "interesting" :( ,, also called information,, that address must be WAY OFF. no listing for RED TOP Hatchery,, anyone have a phone number,,(other than the ones listed above),,or a real address?

-- Stan (, January 07, 2002.

Stan, in the March/April 2001 issue of Countryside, Red Top Chick Farms (not hatchery) has an ad with the above address. I think the phone number above is incomplete however - try area code 717-426-3411.

Kim, did you look at the Poultry classifieds in the last issue of CS? I like McMurray's especially for 4-H chicks, but they are expensive! I did get their brown egg layer special and frying pan special one time and thought they were pretty good. No problems with chick demise and they sent extra chicks plus my fancy chick bonus. I did get three roosters in the egg layer special but I didn't care as I wanted a rooster anyway.

I have also ordered the Silver laced Giants from Red Top Chick Farms and was very pleased with every order I placed with them.

They usally run their ads in the spring issue of CountrySide.
