14165, what is it

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Hi Guys

With my Telyt 250 I got a ring with 14165 on it. Some websites say it is a retainer ring, other say it should be an UV filter but there is nothing in the ring

What is it used for?

It is , in fact, a filter holder. Refer to page 111 of current Hove Accessories list

Thanks, simple enough

It is a retaining ring for series 8 filters. That lens has threads for E72 filters though and they would probably be easier to find thanks to Father Nikon.

That is usefull, is the quality the same as Leica's (or even better), any data on that?

Reinier PS. just added myself to photo.net, have a look: http://www.photo.net/photodb/user?user_id=426947

Yes. The 14165 (or 14165 M) is a retaining ring for series VIII filters. It can be used on several Leica R tele lenses as well as the 180/2.8 Tele-Elmarit M lens for Visoflex. The ring has two parts that unscrew; and you place a series VIII size filter in between and screw the two parts together and back onto the lens. Leica and other companiesw (including Hoya) made series VIII filters of various types for use with this retaining ring. Even if you don't use it, the 14165 ring is a nice thing to have, because it is no longer made and is worth about $ 40 by itself!

Two parts? I only have 1 and I don't see how one can screw a 2nd part in it as the top part isn't straight but tilted outward (so it doesn't block the incomming rays of light). Also it contains ribbons but no screw thread
