Lens Hood for 35/2 Summicron Asph

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Can anyone answer the following questions, please:

1. Will the (square) lens hood (and hood cap) for the above lens fit the painted (Millennium) lenses?

2. With the hood and hood cap on, will the lens fit into the (standard) Ever Ready case?

3. Does £55 sound about right for the square hood and hood cap (my Millenium lens came with the cumbersome old-fashioned style of lens).

Thank you, as ever, in advance.

I've got the 35 Summicron ASPH, and it does fit in the Ever Ready case with the hood and hood cap on.

I've been using the B+W #900 39mm rubber lens hood on my 35mm ASPH Summicron for months. Works very well and much to my continuing surprise, no vignetting on film (mind you, I don't use filters with the lens). I find the rubber hood gives a deeper shade than the standard rectangular hood, but the trade-off is that it protrudes a bit more into the viewfinder.

As long as the Millenium model has the small cut-out notches (which prevent the rectangular hood from rotating)the standard CronASPH hood should fit.

Responding to Q3, as with anything Leica, is any of it worth what they charge? Surely if they can get away with charging 1000 pounds for a lens, then 55 pounds for a square piece of plastic suddenly seems to be a bargain! Try looking for 2nd hand ones, should go for about 20 quid.

Cheers
