Effect of scratches on enlarger lens ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I am about to invest in a Focomat Ic. It has the 50mm Focotar 4.5f lens. I've noticed it has some minor scratches on the lens. What effect would these have on the enlarging process ?

Kind Regards,

Tony Salce

You need to get some kind of discount...small scratches probably wont make a huge difference but if price is right why not.You can always get another lens.

In the general scheme of things really fine enlarging lenses are cheap enough that I'd immediately throw out one that was anything less than perfect in all respects.

I don't think you will find any noticeable difference if you change the lens with minor scratches to a new one.

Some old Leitz lenses have bubbles, with no effect on image quality.
