I see where K mart may be fileing chapture 11,

I heard on the radio, that K mart is in trouble. As so many stores are now. I like K mart, I like there shoes. If I was able to talk to there ceo. I would tell him that , when I want to check out, I would really like more than one checker. Many a full basket has been left sitting because of it. I don"t think to much of there garden supply. Now wall mart has lots of checkers, and so does target. Its a shame we are loseing our stores, Wards is gone, And when I go into Pennys I wonder how they stay afloat. Theres hardly no people in them. Also on the job market going down the tubes. I really wonder who will be buying all that merchandise that comes by way of ships from foreign countries. Our jobs all over seas, We have lost our manufacturing base. How sad. Well dear friends, Its really nice to be able to talk to you all. Goodnight Irene

Didn't think it was that bad, but I hardly ever shop Kmart because most of the stores I've been in are dirty and stuff is disorganized (not put back).

I have talked to some employees about this and they say it is the customers, and I can well believe it from what I've seen customers do when I've been in there. Don't know why that is, either, because Wal- mart doesn't seem to be quite as bad, and you think it would be because their stuff is less expensive (so logically would have more people).

I think part of the problem is that K-Mart's food area is not near the front of the store as it is in Target and Wal-Mart, so people are wandering around with food in K-Mart more than in the other two stores.

I hope they pull out of their slump. Their Martha Stewart line is very nice.

I shop at K-mart some, mainly because it isn't as crowded as Wal- mart. The worst thing about this store is that if someting is on sale or marked down, it rarely comes up on sale at the register. Since almost everything I buy is on sale, I spend a lot of time waiting for price checks.

I have never been wrong yet, as I have started jotting down the sale prices on my list, but it is so annoying!!!! This has never happened to me at Wal-mart, but happens almost every single time I shop at K- mart.

Whenever we visit my husband's mom, I stop in at the K-mart on the way-- last time I was there, I saw they had installed a self- checkout (which is great as they NEVER have more than 3 cashiers), where you scan and bag the item yourself, and pay with a credit, check or debit card, AND IT TAKES CASH!!!! I wish every store had this, not to take jobs away from people, but as an alternative for people who are in a rush and when the cashiers are swamped.

I don't know if you all knew this...but Kmart was on a list of stores for Christians to avoid. I believe it was because Kmart owned Walden's Book Store...and Waldon's sell's pornography. This was like 5 yrs ago, or longer That is why I always avoided going into Kmart. I really forgot why it was being boycotted, but it shows what can happen when Christians spread the news about a business. Love in Christ, Judy

Judy wrote I really forgot why it was being boycotted, but it shows what can happen when Christians spread the news about a business. Love in Christ, Judy

Judy I really do not believe that "Christians" would want to cause over 10,000 people to loose their jobs. Anyway most boycots are a waste of time. K-mart probably has some mis-management issues more than anything else.

I never heard anything about Christians avoiding K-mart. I do go to Waldens fairly often, but have never seen any pornography.

I agree that right now all businesses are probably suffering from the slowing economy. We had an Ames store close, now a Quality Farm and Fleet, and several of the bigger companies locally are laying off lots of people. I have a feeling that things will not get better any time soon for some. I beleive I read that over a million folks had lost jobs, sonce September, and the number is probably higher now. I heard that jobless calims were up last week.

I too doubt that a boycott has anything to do with it. I have never heard anything about pornography in Waldens nor have I ever heard about a boycott of K-Mart due to them buying Waldens. I think if anything K-Mart is going thru hard times because wherever there's a K- Mart there is a Wal-Mart not to far away.

Wow, I hope they don't close all the stores down. I shop at the K-mart in our town. They just remodeled it and it's really nice. They built one of those gigantic Wal-Marts on the road into Pigeon Forge, mostly for the tourists. The Wal-Mart is way to big for my taste and the traffic to get there is absurd. We used to have a normal sized Krogers right next to our K-mart. Just a couple of weeks ago, they opened a brand new, huge Krogers in a very high traffic area. I hate it. It's hard for us locals to get to (traffic, traffic....), it's so big it's impersonal, they don't have the same old guy that ran the meat dept. and the meat is always outdated. Can ya tell I don't like it at all!!? I'm looking for a new place to shop and not need a map of the store to do it.

Melissa,

From what I read, the pornographic materials are not out in the open. I didn't keep up with the information on them because we do not have a Walden's near us, so I don't know if they still sell it.

Hello Irene, Before Kmart was in my home town we used to shop at Zayres. Before Zayres it was Woolworths. Zayres is no longer with us as Kmart became the dominiant store. Kmart has lost the battle with the New Walmart SuperCenters. It is a normal lifespan of business's to suffer from new competition.

Incidently, Service Merchandise is closing their stores nationally. They have been around for 41 years.

Judy, Go to the urban legends site and see if what you heard about K-Mart/Waldens is true. I was told something about Proctor and Gamble and before I stopped buying their products I went there (it wasn't true). I would hope a Christian would be praying for change instead of contributing to the cause of many people out of work. Besides, it won't help if K Mart doesn't know why you won't go in there. Personally I don't care for the Martha Stewart everything they have. Wonder if Martha shops there herself? Maybe if they got rid of her (stopped paying her royalties) if hey'd save some money. How bout not using her and hiring more cashiers instead.

This is an interesting link about Martha Stewart and Kmart. Like I said before, I liked the Martha Stewart line, only because the quality was better than the other stuff Kmart carries, and that was pretty much the only reason I would shop there.
