N.A.N.S.S.S.:Numan Athletics needs special scoring system

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

OK,now that(finally) Numan Athletics is on our Hard Drives,I think that everyone wants to get a special scoring system, before MARP got a lot of "8" scores...

These are the trials in this game:
1.Turbo Dash(a "typical"dash race)
2.Interceptor(intercept the fireballs that comes from a boat)
3.Missile Toss(Launch a missile)
4.Numan Sniper(Similar to Interceptor, but you have to kill monsters)
5.Vs. Express(Block a train)
6.Tower Topper(climb with jumps over two Towers)
7.Nostop Rock Chop(Destroy rocks)
8.Niagara Jumps("simple" Triple Jumps)

Here's the scoring system for every trial that the game use for your performance:
1st type:(1 & 6) use seconds,
2nd type:(3,5 & 8) use meters reached,
3rd type:(2 & 4) use points according to how fast you killed the enemy/missile,
4th type:(7) give one point for every rock destroyed.

Now that I have bored everyone with these descriptions, come up to the point, the scoring system: 1st type:10000-(scorex100)(a la Gtmr)
2nd type:scorex25 for Missile Toss,scorex150 for the other two
3rd type:score for Interceptor,(score/10)x2 for Numan Sniper
4th type:scorex50
Luckly, the game gives a resume at the end,so it's easy to keep trace of the final score.I've tried to give to every trial the same importance(about 10000 to everyone),but I know also that is difficult to calculate the score to this manner(and not perfect).Anyone has propositions, suggests, flames, ecc? So long, Kale

I'll give it a try to sometime soon, let's see if your scoring system is ok...if it is, I should continue my world/marp domination for these kind of games ;)

That is if my ghetto-pc can run it...

Well, good study of the game, Kale ; I will edit the "special rules" soon, but with a few little changes to your proposal in some multiplying coeff. : for example 25 and 150 are not possible because it can give not integer numbers (for example 343.1x25=8577.5 !) After several plays, I've tried to adjust this coeffs (like you already do) so that each event is rewarded by about 10000pts The scoring I've used for my inp is : Trial 1 : 10000 - time x 100
Trial 2 : score of best try
Trial 3 : distance x 30
Trial 4 : score/5
Trial 5 : best distance x 100
Trial 6 : 10000 - (best time x 100)
Trial 7 : nb of rocks x 300
Trial 8 : best distance x 300

Yeah,I think this is the correct way to score.Let's use it!!!

Mmmmm ... please, kale and others, could you wait a little (let say sunday) before uploading any score ?

I've played this game a lot today, and I start to get the hand of it ; our scoring doesn't give me yet entire satisfaction : * you can get about 20000 pts on trial2 with little practice, so I think score there should be divided by 2 * my times on trial1 are always between 10"30 and 10"70 ; actual scoring doesn't make lot difference between these scores compared to other trials ....

Still in study ...

Ok ; now I'm convinced points are to be divided by 2 on trial 2 so that each trial has the same weight ; I've done the changes both in special rules and in input scores ; I kept the rest like it was This scoring should give us a big fun in this game ; now LET'S PLAY ! ... I'm impatiently waiting for others performances to compare with mine ; for info here are my personal best :
1- 10"25
2- 21050
3- 410m
4- 53500
5- 87m80
6- 10"46
7- 27 (can easily be improved)
8- 65m06

Oh one more thing ; I noticed that Skito has confirmed one of my (old) scores but yesterday when I tried to playback this inp, it lost sync at trial 2 ; Chad, what commands you use to playback ? I personally record with dmame57 and no other options than -soundcard 0

Ok, I played yesterday about 3 hours. Game is ok, but for me it's frustrating to notice that sixfinger-superspeed gives only veery slight advantage/no advantage at all in this game. That will make competing more even tough nevertheless...

I'll have to disagree slightly with your scoring methods. Difference between good performance/bad performance at "time-events"(1 and 6) is much too small! With your proposed scoring-system, 0,01 sec difference is only 0,01x100=1point!!!! (at Track&Field 0,01 sec difference is 30 points at 100m, and 20 points at 110m hurdles)

So here is my 0,5€...

TRIAL1: 40 000-timex3000 : example 10,00sec=10 000points / 10,25sec=9250 points / 10,5sec=8500 points. Differences in this event will be small anyway.

Trial2: ouch, this event is very much luck based...maybe even score DIVIDED BY 3 would be good.... Example: score 15 000score =5000points / 20 000score =6670points

Trial3: as it is, distancex30 :example 360m=10800 / 410m=12300

Trial4: as it is, score/5 :example 50 000score= 10 000points /55 000score = 11000points

Trial5: as it is, best distancex100 :example 70meters=7000points /85meters=8500 points

Trial6: 30 000-time x2000 :example 10,00sec= 10 000 / 10,5sec =9000 /10,75=9500

Trial7: as it is, number of rocks x300 : Example 25rocks=7500 /30rocks=9000

Trial8:as it is, best distance x300 :Example 60meters=18000 / 65 meters=19500

I believe these suggestions are quite good, I tried to make two examples(for each event): First example "moderate" performance, second example "good/very good" performance. As you notice difference between these two examples happened to become around 1500, this would make each event more "at the same line" compared to each other.

Do you agree?????

Phil,Here are my best records for yesterday(did not finish the game on one credit yet):

1(dash): 10,13sec 2(interceptor): around 17000 3(missile):410meters 4(sniper):55000 5(train):89meters, second best being around 75m 6(Eiffel tower):around 10,5sec 7(rock'n'roll):30rocks 8(triple jump,niagara):around 66meters

Correction Trial 6, example 3: 10,75=9500 ....should be 10,75sec=8500points (30 000-10,75x2000)

-- TJT (tiihoto@hotmail.com), January 14, 2002.

I completely agree with your scoring for time trials : better than mine ; I've said there that I wasn't very satisfied with mine, but I had no clue how to improve it ; I gonna change "special rules" and my scores soon

But I disagree with changing /2 by /3 on trial 2 for two reasons : *all scores can't be divided by 3 *dividing by 2 give more similar points with other trials (between 8000 and 10000, and 10000+ is a high max)

I hope you will be ok

OK, watch out for my unnuman recordings...

Is there a way to playback these recordings? Anyone? Nvram,cfg...? Nsync is lost at event 2, withorwithoutnvram.

Probably without using Auto frame-skip...
