BASSEDAS WANTS TO SWAP MAGPIES FOR CANARIES
Bassedas: one 1st team start

Newcastle's Argentine midfielder Christian Bassedas says he wants to quit Tyneside after a frustrating 18 months, and believes Spanish side Tenerife want to sign him on loan.

The 28-year-old international, who cost £4million when he arrived from Velez Sarsfield in the summer of 2000, has not started a Premiership game for the Magpies since the opening-day draw at Chelsea in August, and says he would welcome the chance to join several of his compatriots in La Liga.

"I know the management of Tenerife is trying to get me and I hope everything comes out well, because it is a good option for my future," said Bassedas.

"It is great that Tenerife have shown interest in me, because this gives me the chance of playing in La Liga.

"I already have a good relationship with Pablo Paz and Huguito Morales, it would thrill me to play alongside them in the same team.

"I know that many players from my country have played in Spain, and they have all been treated very well.

"This year (at Newcastle) many players have arrived at the club and the manager has preferred to us them, for that reason I am not playing. Leaving would give me the chance to do what I love - playing football."

Newcastle would not comment on any potential transfer, saying: "We can only say that it is speculation at this point."

Fairdoos I think but if he's fit he may gets a chance to do what he loves - play football very shortly.

Journal reckonned it was a "loaner" until the end of the season with a possible permanent move. No fee mentioned but we'll be lucky to get half of what we paid. Waste of money.

What is it with these guys ? Official site has a full spec, and I'd have said Bassedas should be able to cope with the Premiereship.

What happens if he does live up to his S. American experience and apparent potential, while he's on loan ?

Will we retain some sort of option to hang onto him ?

Will he want to come back.

Sounds to me like a bit of iffy man management.
