Ananova:

McDonald's have changed their colours near Leeds United's ground.

Instead of the traditional red, the company have used blue, white and yellow to reflect their footballing neighbours.

And the restaurant's interior is themed on the history of Elland Road with the walls covered in photographs and other memorabilia.

The tables are even in the shape of the players' legs, says the Yorkshire Evening Post.

McDonald's said the removal of the red from the colour scheme was not an attempt to please fans with an anti-Manchester United attitude.

"There is no red in the restaurant colour scheme because it has been themed on the Leeds club and simply they do not play in red," said a spokesman.

"There is no question of avoiding red because of the fans' relationships, that is accidental."

They should try black and white in Newcastle then to sell their poxy burgers. I know TFIs had to change from their red and white striped aprons etc in the Tyneside area. Quite right too. I wouldn't even put a red bauble on my Xmas tree. Sad I know, but you know how it is.......

I hate the way these corporations try to inveigle their way into British popular culture and football in particular. That 'Eat Football, Sleep Football, Drink Coca-Cola' one was particularly cynical. Just because they make the association, doesn't make it credible.

Totally agree, Dan. My non-football gripe on the same theme is the sponsorship of television programmes. Chocolate bars and Coronation Street, Stella Artois and Ch4 films, and that f**king annoying washing powder thing with the unfunny dogs staring at a tumble drier on Emmerdale. As if there isn't enough advertising on telly.

Total agreement. At Ajax's ghastly ArenA stadium if you want anything from the caterers you first have to convert hard earned cash into ArenA's, a rip-off credit system. Then you are offered the chance to pay inflated prices at various McDonalds outlets.

No dodgy burgers for the VIPs + press though. Accompanied a journo to a match once and got freshly made rolls, orange juice and coffee served before, during, and after the match.

Well I'm quite happy with their straw design, a classic.

And Leeds do play in red, you only have to look at Risdales current overdraft to see why.

I've already got my coat on...
