At first glance my impression was what's so special about this shot. But after looking it after a while I think it captures the mood of the country after Sept 11th very well. The father being cut off adds to the shot, also the movement of the flag. I think this is one of those shots that will be appreciated more in the future. Often we see shots from the 50's and 60's and think they are great because they depict the events of that time. I think this shot will do the same.

This is a really nice shot, maybe ignored because it lacked, umm, braces. But it is really nice, with a Robert Frank type air to it. It would be nice to see more of this type of photo from you.

Thanks for the comments. I had to go back and review it several times before I decided whether or not I liked it.

Perhaps those china (?) ornaments in the window have a more definite resonance for those of you across the water, but for me they distract from the image and confuse its mood. The humans I like, and the light is great, but the figurines are too obvious to be mere background, and I'm not sure what they're supposed to be saying.

Maybe they represent the trivial consumerism that . . . uhhh . . . sorry, I have to write and artist's statement and I'm out of whiskey. Maybe another glass of gin will put me in the right state of mind to come up with a profound explanation for the trinkets in the window. It'll be a good warmup . . .
