we had a superb Xmas, lets see we have to play three of the top 6 away and another at home, also a local derby, best we can really hope for is two home wins and maybe, just maybe sneak an away draw, or 7 points, we have Leeds to come and we already have 9 points, I'm delighted

Geordie - the Chelsea defeat annoyed me, too. However, losing at home, as we did last season, to Boro would have sent me into orbit. We have another string of truly minging games to contend with (with Leicester away being my only real hope for points) but should be able to string together the points required for Europe.

VERY strangely for him, when asked about the rest of the season Alex Ferguson knew Newcastle had a set of winnable games left this season, and talked about us as challengers.

A big IF but if we beat Leeds next week, and there are many precedents to say we can do taht, then after 22 games we will be on the same number of points as Man U and Arsenal and one ahead of Leeds. Arsenal are playing Liverpool that weekend so it may even be better than this.

This is way beyond my wildest dreams for this season.

Listen up lads n'lasses, we are two points off the top, we won't be facing Manure, chelsea (and leeds after next week) again this year. Things are shaping up nicely, all the teams now above us have to face each other one more time, points will be lost. It is up to us to make sure we win when these teams lose.

Yea, we are 2 points off the top of the league over half way through the season. Cort is due back although I'm not sure he'll have any impact.

But look at Leeds 5 games (not including fa cup)

Necastle Arsenal Chelsea Liverpool Middlesborough

Perfect!

I'm beginning to think we might not get relegated this season. Heady stuff this optimism isn't it?

if Chelsea win the Worthless Cup then they are in the Uefa Cup, which means that 6th is a straight entry to Uefa, Spurs are 7th on 31 points, followed by Charlton on 29. We should be able to hang on for a place in Europe

Most of the top six still have to play each other at some point. Thankfully the worst is nearly over for us.

Dread - calm down, it's at least another 3 points before we're safe!
