'02 Training Camp

greenspun.com : LUSENET : orienteer kansas : One Thread

It's time to start planning the 2002 Relay Training Camp. It should probably be held in the spring, before it gets too hot. The question is: Where?

Some posibilities:

1. Peggy's house: free housing near good maps. Reasonable travel. 2. Southern Vt: My aunt and uncle have a ski lodge, with plenty of housing. Maps? Does GMOC have any good maps? Difficult for travel, however. 3. Kansas City: easiest location for most club members. Mook and Peggy can stay with Mike and Mary. (Others can stay if they wish) 4. Harriman: becuse of map availability. We would all have to stay in a hotel somewhere. Also, easy travel. 5. Laramie: again, map availability. Could also be a good location for a summer (as opposed to spring) camp. Housing would need to be arranged. Travel is a consideration, but not too bad for most.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Do you have an opinion on one of the above options?

Mikell had mentioned maybe doing a training camp in Laramie when I was out there training last year. I would be interested in going to Laramie to train in May. I had mentioned to him that I would be interested in doing a little training in 2002 and he thought a training camp would be a fun idea. I'm sure there would be others around the country who may be interested too. We could do a training camp open to all in May and then maybe a more exclusive OK training camp in the fall. I'll be sure to bring my fat meter.

Dan mentions an OK camp in "the fall". Since the Relays are September 22, it will be hard to have a fall camp! I think the OK event has to be in the spring or summer.

Ok, how about early September mother nature.

OK, here is the alternate plan I have come up with....... The U.S. Short course champs are May 18-19 near Philly. We could go up early say Tuesday or Wednesday and have our training camp then. I will probably do this no matter what but I can go up earlier (Tuesday) if I get commitments from some club members to go.

So, let's plan a training camp before the Short O. I will arange housing, if interested parties reply with the following information: 1. your name 2. number of nights housing

I will try to find a group camp/cabin with a kitchen. Any one know what is available at French Creek?

I will probably head up there Wednesday afternoon. Perhaps some night O training at French Creek Wednesday night? Where are we staying?

There are heated cabins at French Creek. They have two bedrooms, a bathroom and a kitchen. It says they sleep 6; maybe a fold out couch? Or floor space?

If enough people are interested, we could rent more than one cabin. We could stay there Wed and Thur night, then move on to the A meet on Friday.

Let me know ASAP if you're planning to come, so that I may rent the cabin(s).

OK, I have 3 choices for arrival times. 10:30am, 3:35pm, and 6:55pm int o Philly. I should book my ticket this week so if anybody wants to go in on a rental car, let me know which time would be good for you. I guess I'd like to get up there as early as possible now on Wednesday. So I'm leaning towards the 10:30. (Which means a snack and breakfast on Midwest Express). I'll be heading back Sunday at 7:30pm.

Count Nancy and I "in". We'll probably travel on American thru St. Louis. We can arrive on Wednesday if that's what the group wants.

Mike and I will not arrive before Thursday afternoon. Gene may not make it at all, since it is Commencement, his busiest work day of the year.

We haven't hear anything from Peggy and Nadim, or Mook.
