How do I extend the RS-60E3 remote??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

Can somebody please help me? There has been previous discussion about making your own remote for an EOS 50. I have a RS-60E3 remote, but need to make it much longer (eg. 3m+).

The link to info about extending the remote is not working (http://www.worm-hole.net/members/VIG/extend_remote/, accessed from: http://home.dsp.net/~chantal/Remote/RemoteLinks.html, as mentioned in this forum.) Does any body have an updated link , or further information.

I am in Australia, and it would be helpful if anybody has local based information. Any help would be appreciated!

If you can locate a source in Oz, there is an off-the-shelf solution using a mobile phone headset extension cord:

Unforutnately there seems to be no local source in OZ, (at least in the DSE or Tandy online catalogues) :-(

If you are committed enough to modify your RS-60E3, and you are capable of wielding wire cutters, a soldering iron, you could try to splice a 2.5mm stereo phono inline jack/socket using these links as a guide:

use an extension cable...

G'day Batgirl,

If you visit a Dick Smith, Tandy or Jaycar store they should be able to help you. They have lots of extension cables of all different sizes for all conceivable uses. Their online catalogues are very sparse so don't rely on them.

If you're still stuck, ring Canon to see if they make an extension lead.

Thank you all for your help.

For future reference Canon does not make an extension lead for the RS-60E3 remote, only the more pro remotes.

I was hesitant to try standard headphone extension cables as the general response from Tandy etc is we have no idea whether it is compatiblewith photographic equipment (ie. they run a mile).

Thank you all for the prompt response, and I'm heading to Tandy now.

Suggestion: bring your RS-60E3 with you to the electronics store.
