Oil Burners?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

I have some holy oil and I would like to place it in a small chapel we have on our property. But I'm having a hard time finding the correct instrument to use to keep the oil warm. I know it is kept in a "lamp" in Church but I can not find anything like this for sale on the internet. Can someone here help me with the correct terminology for this oil warmer? Thank you in advance.

Cindy, I don't quite understand what you are looking for. If you are referring to holy Chrism oils kept in a Church for sacramental purposes, one does not usually find such things in a private chapel. What purpose would one have for keeping such an oil anyway? They would be of no use to you and not usually kept heated with a special vessel.

If you are referring to oil that is found in a "sanctuary lamp", which lamp is usually coloured red or amber, the one you find in a church that is kept burning to signify the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, then I would tell you this sort of oil does not have to be blessed. Also there are more practical ways to maintain such a sanctuary lamp if you have need of one. You may use coloured electrical lamps, or large coloured candles etc. This reduces the high-maintenance required when using oil.

In any event, any large city will have a religious/church supplies/goods store listed in the yellow pages. You may also telephone your local parish or diocesan office and they will be able to put you in touch with the supplies stores they most often deal with.

I know that some Catholic stores sell "anointing oil" but it is not for sacramental use. Lamp oil could be blessed, like candles are, but it would not be called holy oil. Just curious, where did you get the oil?
