Happy New Year to you all. And I'll have a pint of whatever Screacher is drinking please.

...and let's hope it's a happy new year for wor Bobby, who is quoted on Ceefax this very New Year's Day re Alex Ferguson's plans to retire. Quotes are from an interview with Sky Sports News:

"I've said: 'What will you do on Saturdays, go to the supermarket?' I'll talk to him. He's done marvellously well, he'll miss it all. Maybe he's reconsidering."

Bobby probably has Carl Cort's wife on standby.

Bobby's New Year message to Fergie in full:

"I've told him that. I've said: 'What will you do on Saturday afternoons, go to the supermarket? Is that what you want to do, go around picking up tins of soup and Heinz beans?'

"I don't know what Alex is going to do - I'll have a chat with him and see what he says. He's done marvellously well and must rank right up there among the best managers of all time.

"He's had a few resources and has been at a good club, but you can't take anything away from him. He'll miss it all and maybe he is contemplating a change of heart."

Bobby, 68, is eight years older than Ferguson, but the former England coach insists he has no intention of taking things easy just yet: "I can't think of anything better to do with my life - if I could then maybe I would give it up," he added.

"But football is my dream, my life and my work. As long as my health is okay and the chairman wants me to stay, I'll carry on."

All the very best lads and lasses. Hope you have a happy and prosperous 2002.

And here's hoping my first sin of the new year is envy - of those of you who make the trek to Old Trafford.

As it is with our beloved team, so it is with life....especially today, January 1st.

We've got everything to go for, it's not luck that'll get us there, this year or next..it's Hard graft, skill and a 'never say die' belief from every member of the team. So howay, Bobby, let's roll up our sleeves and get on with 2002 !

And let's make 2002 a "Welcome, Lurkers !" year. Come on, you lot we know you're out there. This year sometime, nip in and say a quick hello, the more the merrier :-)

A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL FRIENDS, PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE, ON THIS SMASHING BBS.

val.

Peace and Joy to you all.

A disappointing start to 2002 as I notice that, yet again, my name is missing from the New Years Honours List. As is YBR's. Let's hope that these, and other long standing injustices will be righted soon ...
