L Lens Tripod Collar

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I have recently acquired two L Lenes. Is there any way to prevent scratches on the part of the tripod mount that joins the lens to the tripod or monopod?

Thanks

Yes, be careful when you thread in the tripod head screw. Use a quick-release plate as it is less prone to mishaps than a screw on the tripod head. If you're really worried, glue a thin piece of cork to the tripod mount. Most heads already have the cork pad.

I mounted a quick-release plate on my EF 300 4L USM six years ago and haven't removed it since.

Easy. Do not subject that part of the tripod mount to contact with hard or sharp objects, or objects with points, edges, ridges, or other such surface features which might cause those scratches.

I've bought a small piece of adhesive felt that I put on the tripod mount. It's thin and in-expensive. I hope this helps.
