VP @EXCITE SHUTTING DOWN ASAP

greenspun.com : LUSENET : DaVinci's Exile Test : One Thread

VP at Excite is shutting down December 29-31th (they officially said, "within 24-48 hours," starting sometime on the 28th).

Excite has been bought by iWon, which is not going to continue to use VP as its chat program. On the other hand, they promise some sort of chat program for us to replace VP. Whether or not it will be up to snuff, or to our tastes, remains to be seen.

In any case, stay tuned here and at the www.communityzero.com/exile-test boards (Community Zero boards for Exile) to see how this all turns out. Join in the discussion both here and there about what we want to do next. Do we want to use the new iWon chat at the "new" Excite? Do we want to try using Taliessin's (now in beta) chat program that's available for download and testing at the Community Zero boards? Do we want to use something completely different?

It's up to you folks! This is your community -- let's here from ya'll about what you think!

I've downloaded the new super chat and so far no problems. I haven't tried out Tal's chat software yet but I'm going to be brave and try it out in a little while. Can you hear my knees knocking? LOL!!! Wheee! I shall return with an update.

Where do I get this super chat? I checked the iwon site....maybe I missed it?

SFG: if you log into the old VP they have a link on the chat hub. (probably only through the 31st) Then download the Excite Private Messenger. It's not too bad it does not have everything our VP has but it is functional. It may be a good enough alternative. No gestures, and because I didn't have it save my password you have to login every time you change rooms grrr

hey y'all. i'm going to halsoft with family and some friends from here. it costs but i've tried the other free ones and they're full of glitches. halsoft is offering 3 mos for 10 bucks right now. we figure by then free sites should be much better. here's a url if you're interested. happy new year! http://reg.vpchat.com/new/? a=202779&n=noelle
