mason jar cakes

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

Okay, I did it. Not only did I bake banana nut bread in mason jars, but I did it without blowing up the stove. AND it was a big hit with the family and friends I gave them out to. I did have my husband try one to make sure they were eatable, he said it was good.

Just to be sure, I made little reindeer ornaments out of polymere clay that were the cutest little things (burned a few of them though, didn't tell anyone)

No one else in the family does this homemaking stuff but I think they would miss it if I stopped. Always something different each year. I should have saved the reindeer for next year...

Glad they worked out for you, Dee! I copied off Sherri's recipes - Thanks for posting those, Sherri, BTW - for that magical day when I get time to try them!

As for ornaments for next year; plant some okra in the garden this year; Sharon showed Cass and Phyllis and I how to make "Okry Santas" - mine look so neat on the tree, and the cost is right!

I printed out the recipes too, Polly, but I haven't taken the time to try them out yet. They do look good, though...

Since I'm a polymer clay addict this part of your post really caught my eye. Do you have directions on how to make these guys, Dee? Or perhaps a web-site that shows how to make them?

Jim, It's a book, LITTLE DARLINGS by Shelly Comiskey. 11 Whimsical, wonderful critters & friends to make for holidays & gifts. Really cute.

Last year I made caricatures of my in-laws. Everyone flipped over that, you could tell it was them. It was funny because my father-in- law was laughing one day, turns out my mother-in-law was wearing the outfit the doll was wearing (copied the real thing. even put gum on the bottom of her shoe)

Thanks for the info, Dee. I have one of Shelly Comisky's other booklets on polymer clay so I may have to get a copy of this one, too. It looks really good! I see that Polymer Clay Shoppe has this booklet available so I may buy it online from them.

That sounds really cool. If you ever want to post pictures of them to our forum I'd love to see them. I'm not that great at creating caricatures - I guess I need to practice, practice, practice more. There are a couple books out there by Maureen Carlson on creating clay characters if you're unaware of them. Here are the links to Amazon if you're interested:

I really love her work and wish I had *half* her talent. She lives only an hour or so north of me and holds classes at her art studio on polymer clay techniques throughout the year. I haven't taken the time to take any of her classes yet but I'd definitely like to. :-)

YES! We want to see pictures of all these creations! :-)

Yes, that's how I started. I was looking at craft books in the book store and saw her book and had to have it. It's easier for me to make characters, I try for real and this is how they turn out. tee hee, just kidding but it does make it easier. I'll see about getting pictures, can't promise, I'm really bad about stuff like that.

Okay, now if Chuck explained this right, a picture should appear.

this should be the reindeer. If it comes out, I'll add another.

Hum, I'll have to look into this...

Hi Dee,

I tried going to the URL you had for this picture but couldn't find it. If you want, you could send the picture to me in an attachment via e-mail and I'd post it to the BTS picture page...

I'm gonna try again. Chuck has offered to help me if I can't do it.
