homestead record keeping

My New Years resolution was to keep better homestead records. We are horrible at it. I have tried a variety of methods and none are truly satisfactory. Do any of you keep good homestead records and if so what method do you use.

Diary form on a computer diskette with search index. Your built in word processor should be adequate for it.

Well Kim, you mean that there is something better than a new shoe box every year.........;>). let me know if you come up with it. Every year I start a new method and it fades out about half way through the year when I get busy canning or something and the old shoe box gathers the receipts.

I love Excel because you can design your own spread sheets and forumulas. I just wish I would kept up with it!!!

Well...I do it the old-fashioned way!! I write everything down...by hand! I keep track of what we spend on the goats, meat chickens and pigs. Have to keep track of that since we sell extra milk, eggs and pork. I also keep a loose ring binder from year to year of what our garden produces, how much we spend on it and what varieties we use. Hubby says I'm "anal retentive". Not sure if that's a compliment or not!!!!
