Konica Auto S2

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

I recently purchased a used Konica Auto S2 rangefinder on eBay. The camera appears to be in beautiful shape except for one major problem. The aperature does not change at all when the aperature ring is turned. It is stuck on one setting, whick looks like f16. The ring turns very smoothly yet nothing changes. I have tried every possible combination to no avail. I love the camera and would love to use it however since it only cost me about 20.00 it wouldn't justify paying for a repair. Does anyone have any experience with this camera or this particular problem? Anything I could possibly fix myself? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kevin

This is normal I think -- hard to tell from your description. I have one and my dad had one when I was a kid. If you are refering to the needle that only moves in auto-mode (i.e., shutter prefered). If you open the camera up and push the shutter (in b mode) does the aperture change if you look through the lens ?

This may or may not help you: downloadable manual for Konica Auto S2.

Remove the ring from the front of the lens.

Remove shiny alu ring visible next.

Shake out the front ring of the lens.

Using a rubber tool, screw off the protruding lens elements. They are screwed in extremely tightly.

Set shutter to B. Activate shutter. You now see the aperture. Apply gas lighter or some alcohol to the blades via a dampened ear-bud. Slightly massage the blades. They should open up.

Keep the lens elements on the other side clean.

A wonderful camera. Exceedingly excellent lens.
