Depth of Field Preview for 7E

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I am a new 7E user and so far have been very satisfied with the camera. I currently use a canon 50mm 1.8 and Sigma 28-200 3.5-5.6. I understand that the Depth of Field Preview is only available in the Creative Modes set on the Command Dial. However, when using the Sigma zoom, it appears that the function only works on Manual and not on the other settings. Am I missing something or could this be a problem with the body and/or 3rd party lens?

Thanks, Dale

According to Sigma, it probably the lens.

I originally thought that as well and have already talked with Sigma customer service and B&H Photo in NY where the lens/camera was purchased. The lens supposedly already has the chip fix as the Sigma box says on it "specifically for Elan 7/7E."

Assuming that the problem that you mentioned has been corrected, is there anything else that you can think of that might cause this to occur?

Thanks, Dale

Try it with another Canon lens. If the DOF works fine with 2 official Canon lenses, one would have to conclude that the new chip provided by Sigma does not make the lens fully compatable with your 7E.

I have an Elan IIE and an EOS 3, so I cannot fully duplicate your results. Hopefully someone with a 7E will be able to provide more information.
