Future Webcasts - PPListen???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Season Greetings all!

Just read on .com that .co.uk want to charge 5 pound per month to access their site (the tripe that it is). The only reason I have to go there is for the webcasts of Toon games. Very worried that this will be affected (i.e not available for those not willing to stump up 5 pounds per month = about $15 Aussie Roubles per month).

If memory serves me right I think .co.uk have tried this membership (fee) based crap before and it went off like a lead balloon.

Worried. Anyone else know an alternative site for football (EPL) webcasts?

Yes, the website of the opposing team. You'll have to listen to biased commentators more often than not but it'll be a cold day in hell before I fork out cash to listen to Metro bloody Radio.

It's amazing what being 3000 miles away and desperate can make ya do though. ;-) I did sub the last time they tried this...and complained bitterly to them everytime the webcast screwed up...which was at least every other week. Much like now. :-( Not sure I'll sub again. I may try to make do with opposing webcasts for as long as possible purely on principle. Give me consistent quality and I'll pay. They can't possibly guarantee it at this stage :-/

I have tried to obtain Metro for the last three games. All I succeed in doing on my computer and my laptop is to crash. I was able to listen to the games on the opposing sides radio without the slightest problem. Is it just me or are others having the same problem?

I think from comments I've read on match threads these past 6 months you may be in a clear majority there floridian. End result will be a total commercial failure unless they can improve the product on offer.

And there was me hoping for reasonably-priced PPV footage streamed live to a computer next season. Instead our self-appointeded club officials are still trying to work out how to work a wireless set !!

I'm (usually) lucky enough not to need the webcast, but can fully inderstand those of you who depend on it. One thing that has to improve is service. Most folks don't mind paying a reasonable sum for good service. But from my limited experience, the webcast has been poor. From anecdotal evidence, it is even worse. Any commercial organisation hoping to make money from a venture would expect to sort out the quality before asking punters to pay. It would appear that ths is not the case with NUFC/PremiumTV. Cilla...............?

I'm always happy to listen to the webcast of the opposition. Even the marginally biased commentary helps to keep me pessimistic until we've won, and the quality is always better than dot cock. Even the bloke on the Brentford site webcast for the Worthless Cup was better than our rubbish, and he was using a mobile phone, poor old b..gger. If I recall, our site was off air for 90% of the game because it couldn't cope with the demand. Seems like charging for the service is one way to cut demand, so maybe there's method in their madness. They've decided that rather than fix the technical problems associated with high volume traffic, they'll put a mechanism in place to cut traffic. Genius. I'm with the majority, they can stick their PPL, I'll rely on Five Live for goal updates.
