Is there a differance in the photos the two lens would produce?

Hi Tim, The original SSC lens had one florite element in a 6 element 5 group design. The later lens had one florite and one ULD element in 9 element 7 group design. My feeling is, unless Canon optical engineers lost their marbles, the second lens should outperform the first. One other thing to keep in mind is the first lens used 34mm filters which seem very hard to find, where the second will take 48mm filters from a variety of vendors. Hopefully someone else can give you the benefit of first hand experience. Dennis
