Making SVDs go to two disks with Nero 5

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I am trying to burn files using Nero 5.5.4 to a SVCD. How does one automatically get Nero to stop and prompt to place the file on TWO disks when the file is too big?

Currently, I take a file (typically bigger than 750M) and write to disk, it stops when the disk is full and thats it.

Thanks in advance

You will have to edit your video yourself and split into parts that you give Nero for burning. Two of the more popular editors are TMPGenc (http://www.tmpgenc.com - it's free, but it's real time consuming and not very user friendly to use as an editor) and MPEG2VCR (http://www.womble.com - terrific program, but it costs $249 US). There are others, but these two are probably the most popular. One other possible option if your video is > 800 MB but < 1 GB is to burn to 90 or 99 minute CD-Rs using Nero. Your burner may or may not have problems burning these non-standard CD-Rs. Most burners will burn 90 minute CD-Rs, but not the 99 minute CD-Rs. Plextor burners will burn the 99 minute CD-Rs, for example. http:/www/cdrfaq.org can give you some info on 90/99 min. CD-Rs. A web search can also turn up some useful info. There's a list somewhere that tells for some burners whether they will burn 90 or 99 min. CD-Rs, but I don't remember where it is. A web search should find it. If you have some weird, cheap, no name brand burner, you may not be able to find any info on it.

From your post, it sounds like you are feeding Nero a file (avi or such) for it to be encoded to SVCD specification and then burn it to the CD. If this is so, then don't do that. What you can do is to use a standalone MPEG2 encoder to encode the SVCD for you after you split up the file first. You can use virtualdub to split the file for you if you are using avi file.

Thanks.. I have a good CD burner, however my DVD player will not play any VCDs I make unless they are on the CDRW CDs..

hence I will go with your option to spilt the file..

cheers
