24-85 silver?

has anyone heard of a canon 24-85 usm lens that is painted silver? is it the same as the black one?

Yes - yes and yes. It was silver to match the EOS IX but works fine on the 35mm EOS. It's the same as the black one except for the finish.

Yeah, it is identical to the black EF 24-85 USM save the color. It was the kit lens for the EOS IX and IXE APS SLR cameras. It doesn't get hot like the black one when shooting in the sun and looks really cool on an Elan II.

The other EF lens you might see in silver is the 35-135 USM, of which there were a limited number painted silver to go with a special (also silver-coloured) anniversary edition of the EOS 10.
