Working on the holidays

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MATH Plus One : One Thread

Being Jewish, and working in an online newsroom that staffs 24-7, I get to work on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. No big deal (except that y'all will undoubtably abandon me to open presents and leave me bereft of entertainment).

Of course, I also have to work from noon-8 on New Year's Day, which sucks rocks.

Anyone else out there stuck at the office?

Nope. Not really stuck in the office, just Jewish. And I am green with envy,gah-REEN! I want a tree too!with lots of presents and some thick huge socks on the mantel, but instead whatdoweget? Donuts,(but we call them 'Sufguniot' to make it sound more sophisticated),and a few midget candles. Life sucks. And no presents unless you're a kid.Apparently they draw the line at 12.Twelve!

I'm stuck at the office for now. I'm officially working Christmas Eve (see, here I am, working!), but according to official rumor they will tell us all to go home at noon. Plus, it's not like anybody's actually doing any *work*. So far, I have bought a diet Pepsi. Checked email and voice mail, and left to go buy a couple of last minute gifts. This is my kinda work day!

I'm never 'stuck' in the office, because I work from home.Aren't I the luckiest? But it does feel eery here these last couple of days. Home-office alone ...4? By the way..Diet Pepesi?? Not only is it a pepsi, which strongly suggests it's not a coke,(Womanly intuition)but it's a diet pepsi? Are you trying to make us feel sorry for you Ms.Jessamyn?

It is sad that it's diet Pepsi, isn't it? diet Coke is highly superior, I know, but somehow lately I have come to a shaky truce with diet Pepsi - as long as its fountain diet Pepsi, I will drink it. I have plenty of diet Coke at home, though, so I'll have a merry Christmas after all! Ha!

well Jessamyn,as long as you're happy.Pepsi,Shmepsi,whatever. I hardly drink any coke these days.I'm into water.I'm cool that way. (and it helps me to maintain my glorious 'figure') Have a wonderful holiday Jessamyn.Don't abuse the eggnog.(and this is the last time I'm talking drinks here I swear)

I'm a Dr. Pepper person myself. And those infernal Starbucks gingerbread lattes, which I swear have crack or some other addictive substance in them.

-- Anonymous, December 24, 2001

You have got to be kidding!!Crack is addictive??

I'm neither Jewish nor working, but I thought I'd say hi to you folks stranded at someplace-you'd-rather-not-be on this holiday-ish occasion. I am Home Alone and being curmudgeonly and getting drunk, so I'm extra-glad you all seem to be about.

-- Anonymous, December 24, 2001

Well, I'm sorry you're Home Alone. If you see any burglers, be sure to use the homemade traps the little kid used in all the movies.

-- Anonymous, December 24, 2001

I am home alone and smoking. And bitter.

Fa la freakin' la.

I just looked out the window. No Santa yet. Of course, maybe Jewish people just can't see him?

-- Anonymous, December 24, 2001

Sweet! Keli, I too am Home Alone and Smoking. And getting drunker. So is Jay, and he is also Jewish and can't see Santa, so we are commiserating on how Santa is not coming to either of our houses tonight.

Actually we are debating the merits of Son Volt and Wilco, and I'm not sure he is drinking.

And, I have never seen the movie "Home Alone," or any of its spawn, so I can't set traps. A burglar would be sort of interesting right now.

I'm on launch.com, making a radio station, since Santa's not coming down the chimney with a bagfull of CDs.

Oh, Pineapple, trust me, I am soooo drinking.

Yo, pina! Come to chat! All of you come hang out!

Here's a question so silly that I'm embarassed for asking ... how do I get there?

-- Anonymous, December 25, 2001

There is no such thing as a silly question.

All right, I think my proxies or something are all fouled up, since that's not working (and neither is my FTP. See, y'all, that's why I'm not updating!)

To use an AB-ism, my computer is not the cousin for me.

So you'll have to talk about me behind my back.

Waaa!

-- Anonymous, December 25, 2001

Serves me right for being computer illiterate.

And y'all have yourselves a Merry Little Christmas, since it's officially the 25th here on the East Coast.

The merits of Son Volt and Wilco?

Did you already talk about the damn sexiness?
