Verucca's Tackle

No girls, not that sort of tackle. Just sat thru The Premiersh!t this morning after having missed it last night. My on-the-spot view was confirmed by the cameras. Verucca should have had a yellow for the elbow on Dabs. Indeed, even Winter indicated with his elbow when he awarded us the free kick. So, Jeff, why wasn't that a yellow?

And then his tackle. Nice (not!) close-up of the gash on Dabs' thigh just above the knee. Disgraceful and should have had a red itself, or at least a second yellow. And then the FOB went on to score. Mind you, in a perverse sort of way, Verucca (and Bowyer) scoring perhaps drove us on to the win. Just like Bellamy's sending off did on Tuesday.

Other than that, I thought it was a Winter Wonderland. The guy had a good game and credit where credit is due. Even if he is a Fat Smo99ie B'st@rd! Goodwill and all that ;-)

Dabizas has a broken nose as well, maybe out for 2-3 weeks which is worrying.

The Elbow I thought was not too bad, just bad luck with two players giving a full 100%, the tackle though was horrendous.

However, unfortuate for Dabs, Distin was bloody brilliant.

In fairness, I'm glad Viduka didn't get sent off or it would be yet another spawny win according to the press.

He should be pulled up by the FA though.

In his defence at least he looked sorry about it, he realised straight away that it was a sh*t challenge and went over to Dabs. Should have gone though.

The elbow looked worse than the one Bellamy got a straight red for. At least he didn't break Cole's nose! Surprisingly Winter hasn't been too bad for us since he sent Nic off at OT for speaking Greek!

Screacher, What I liked about the highlights(?) was Lee Bowyers face when he scored in front of the Toon fans and then, contrasting that to his face at the end of the game....absolutely priceless ;-)) He's a f*****g thug and racist one at that, F***K him and Leeds! victory has never tasted so sweet.....ahhhhh 3-4.

In today's Mirror Nicos Dabizas says:

"He (Viduka) should have got a yellow card for the first incident, when he broke my nose with his elbow. There's a difference between being physical and being violent.

The tackle was bad. It was above my knee and I was playing the ball on the ground. His studs were over a foot above the ground. I thought it was my cruciate ligament. It was a nasty kick above the knee.

At the time I feared the worst. I was in unbelievable pain, and it should have been a straight red card. If it had been inches lower it would have broken my kneecap. It would have been major.

In the second incident he would have shattered my leg to pieces if he had been inches lower. We all want to win but professional footballers should protect each other more."

Leeds manager David O'Leary has tried to play down the second incident. He said: "It was just a stupid centre-forward's tackle!"

Stupid? Yes. Reckless? Yup. Dangerous? Certainly. Dirty? Imho - absolutely.

interesting that forwards are allowed to make crude challenges and are excused it onthe back of being forwards, if Keane or Gerrard had made the same tackle they'd have been straight off.

Always felt poor little Scholes always got away with some very dodgy tackles cos he meant no harm
