Filter for 50mm Elmar

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Someone recently posted the correct size for the tiny little screw-in filters for an Elmar 50mm/f:3.5 which will leave the aperture adjustment available. I carefully bookmarked it, and copied the size onto my Leica file, but now can'e find either. Help please.

Wilhelm,

My Hove pocket book list the filter for the Elmar as A36 and then later E39. There is no mention of what the cut-off is, but looking at the two pictures, you can see the difference.

Here is an old post from the archives that has some discussion about the Elmar and a filter / hood deal that allows you to use the aperture. Maybe this is what you want. Hope this is helpful.

You should use a VALOO lens hood/aperture ring (big black thing also used on Elmars mounted on Focotars) and the A36 clamp-on filters fit on the VALOO with a thumb-screw.
