Is now the time to strengthen?

FS should look at the team and think about releasing the purse strings and giving BR the option of making an extra push for the Champs League. We're top of the league at the moment without the depth of Arsenal, Liverpool etc. Maybe he'll be persuaded by BR.

Now IS the time to buy.

Absolutely.

It may be coincidence, but I think not, that Dyer has returned to the side. Probably in a position none of us really saw as his. We have gone for the "score more goals than you" approach and it has worked superbly but we desperately need cover/strengthening in central midfield, and probably cover up front.

I'd stil go and push West Ham for Carrick. He would be right for all sorts of reasons.

talking of cover... it was nice to have someone of the quality of Distin to come on when Dabz was hacked out of the game. Last season would have seen a major shuffling of players on the park.

Jimmy Armfield was purring about Distin

agreed Macbeth, our confidence has been bolstered that much more with YKD. Our oft criticised midfield is actually coming together, although I'm sure we could do with further strengthening.

Gary Speed showing a bit of form at last has had a huge impact and losing the negativity of Rob Lee has been a major plus now that they seem to recognize the need to keep on attacking.

I like the way Nobby and Dyer link up.

The passing was slick - movement off the ball - covering back when we lost it - supporting the man with the ball - is this rocket science ?

Distin has been one of my favourites for quite a while now. Bobby MUST fit him in from the start.

Interesting comments. So losing Lee from the lineup may not be quite as disastrous as some of us feared? Still think our top priority has to be a strong central midfielder. We definitely need to try to take advantage of our league position to attract a top player.

Actually, the big bonus of Dyer is that is his pace gets us out of jail. Rob Lee may prevent the odd goal but Dyer adds another attacking dimension. Having said that, we need Gary Speed to be on his game or we'll be in trouble with so lightweight a midfield.

That's what worries me, Dougal. He won't stay on form forever so we're still riding our luck that he or Lee will be fit and in form. Hopefully we'll have collected enough points for a Euro spot before one or both of them pack it in.
