greenspun.com : LUSENET : orienteer kansas : One Thread

It is the time of year when you start reading everyones top ten lists -- top ten movies, top ten moments in sports, top ten news stories, and so on. So, what do you think were some of the top OK happenings for 2001?

I'll start off with two potential top-ten happenings.

Mook's performance at the Short and Long Champs. OCIN hosted these two champs in the spring and Mook totally dominated the M21 catergories -- winning both championships.

The Food Court at the Swedish 5-Days Orienteering. The Food Court was a fantastic addition to the annual 5-Days event. The atmosphere at the place was great. The food was great. A food court with interesting and exotic restaurants was a new idea for the 5-days.

How does the food court at a Swedish race qualify as an OK happening? None other than OKers Magnus and Sanna Wallenborg came up with the concept and implemented it.

Here are some more ideas for consideration (in no particular order):

Mike's injury: certainly had an impact on the whole club, not just Mike

Dan's decision to stay in KC: it's nice to have a training partner for motivation

Peggy and Mike make the WOC team: good job!

Mook's relay run: great

Having two full teams at the Relays, again: despite being so far away from the meet site. Once again, OK proves it's dedication to team O

Some more ideas:

The new Bluetongue Map, updated by Mook and Gene

Gene's courses and fine field work at the successful KS Champs

Fritz's attendance at Oringen (not to mention how he got there!)

(As Mike mentioned): Sanna's spectacular run at Tiomila

How about the unexpected OK US Champion -- Dave Linthicum coming out of his semi-retirement to win M45 (his first US Champs title). The string of OK champs continues!
