Neglected Poodle Drinks Too Much Water....

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Poodle Support Group : One Thread

I recently adopted a male poodle, 8 pounds, 7 yrs old, He was previously owned by an old lady that became unable to care for him...none of the elderly ladys children wanted the dog due to his obsession with drinking too much water and wetting huge puddles in the house...I did not know this when I adopted him....I took him to the vet thinking he might be diabetic...but the blood test showed a perfectly normal dog....The vet told me that the dog was probably placed in a position where he could not get water for very long periods of time...he dosn't want to eat...just wants water...getting thin...how can I help him with this problem...

Hi Eileen, Poor Little guy, I really don't know the answer for you, how about your vet, couldn't he advise you. I hope you can get the proper help with this and everything turns out fine for you and the little guy.

HI , THE BEST WAY TO HELP THE PRECIOUS LITTLE GUY IS TO JUST KEEP REASUREING HIM THAT THE WATER WILL BE THERE BUT THEN START TO TAPER IT OFF A LITTLE AT A TIME , MAYBE ONLY PUT ENOUGH FOR HIM TO GET A GOOD DRINK A COUPLE TIMES A DAY OR RIGHT AFTER HE EATS ECT.. , THEN JUST MAKE SURE YOU TALK TO HIM ALOT AND GIVE HIM TONS AND TONS OF LOVE AND I KNOW POODLES REAL GOOD AND HE WILL COME AROUND , THE LOVE IS REAL INPORTANT . GOD BLESS AND SEND ME A PIC . REV.DAVID BROWN
