Problem with Konica Hexar RF with M lens

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I just bought a new Hexar, it is very hard to focus precisely, the rangefinder would not overlap completely, I tried the 35mm, 75mm, 90mm, all same result, does anyone out there having the same problem? What seems to be wrong? Thanks!!!

Mitchell:

1) It could just be factory misadjustment - many RFs came out of the factory with the infinity setting or vertical alignment wrong (or both) - fixable under warranty, or exchange it for one that works.

2) The RF rangefinder image wobbles around some if you're wearing glasses. Try moving your eye around a little behind the eyepiece and see if that changes things at all.

3) Because of 2) above, I gave up on the Hexar RF - twice. IMHO it's only really suitable for 50mm f/2 and shorter lenses because of the wobble and low (.6x) finder magnification.

It is a standard problem with the Hexar that it leaves the factory with the rangefinder image not overlaping or not overlaping at infinity. Mine does the same thing but it does not bother me since I use it strictly for wides. Take it in under warranty and Konica will adjust it for you. I know is a pain in the ass so I decided to just live with it. It is a really good camera nevertheless.

Is this your first rangefinder? Lots of people have this problem because they do not look straight through the viewfinder. I've seen this complaint on Leicas, the Hexar, and the Mamiya 6/7.

It's also possible it is an adjustment problem and Ray may be right.
