Repair Manual

Can anyone please tell me the name of a repair manual for screw mount Leicas. I remember seeing one in the 1980s which went up to the IIIG and I think it was a copy of a genuine factory Leica repair manual. I have also seen a manual which shows all the steps for dismantling and repairing a screwmount camera which I think was written by a hobby repairer. Does anyone know thier titles or where I might find a copy.

I should appreciate any information.

Oops, sorry that didn't quite cut it. Try camerabooks.com and head for the Leica section, nice selection there.

The manuals are great fun for seeing how things work and doing minor adjustments BUT I would not do any major work on a Leica without one other thing: experience. I can give you a repair manual for your car but that will not make you a mechanic. Nor does the possession of a Leica repair manual make you a Leica repair tech. There is a good deal of information that is not in the repair manuals, information that can only be learned by working with an experienced repair tech or by putting in years of work making many mistakes. How many proceedures have you start by unbolting this or unscrewing that. What you will not know is that, after forty years, perhaps it will only come apart with very special care. Be careful, a little knowledge can be a dangerouis thing.

John thanks for your wise comments. I wasn't really intending to get to work servicing or repairing a leica but if a cheap broken one came along I rather fancy having a go. I know well the years of experience that goes into repairs of such objects not least the special tools and micrometers . colimation, etc needed. Also I know the best Leica repair man in the business and I could never get near his skill level. No it was just that I'd like to see how the internals all connect and operate other than just by drawings. I have repaired the odd clock and camera in an amateur way.
