We would like to buy a carpet cleaning machine for my Mom for Christmas/birthday present. I know absolutely nothing about them. I have only used the kind that you rent from the grocery stores. Do any of you have one? And if so, what model and/or brand do you have? I was planning on finishing my shopping this afternoon...but I sure could use some hints on this first! I have a Hoover Steam Vac Gold--I LOVE it! We make soaps and candles for our source of income and our carpet got what I thought was totalled. You can't help but track the stuff in. It cleaned it up like brand new. It is EASY to use (not much more trouble than vacuuming), inexpensive (relatively), and works really well. I got mine at our local Wally World (Wal-Mart). I've had it for over a year now and have no complaints. I'd highly recommend it.

I love my hoover too. Not just for big room cleaning but for immediate "dog throw up", plant overturns type of cleaning that does the job before things get out of hand. My only complaint is that the thingee that holds the attachments/hose is not holding so well. But it's not that bad--the good is better than the bad.

What ever kind you get, spend a few more bucks and get one with rotating multi heads and a rotating headed hand tool instead of just a beater bar. k
