This point about "luck"

The year Man Utd won the treble, everyone was saying they were lucky, scoring in injury time etc. However, the truth is that they merely kept playing until the final whistle and therefore got what they deserved. We are currently going through a (almost unprecedented) spell of playing until the whistle and getting the luck we deserve: don't let anyone tell you any differently.

You never hear about Man United's 13 point season against Arsenal, do you?

battered like United were by a superb Arsenal

1. The game is won by the team which scores the most goals.

2. Arsenal missed lots of chances and could not score goals.

3. Ergo Arsenal were NOT superb.

Before opening this thread I said to myself..."oh here we go...another load of crap about being lucky...I'll have to sort these lot out"...and then I got a Dougal surprise!!

When Rudolph saved that penalty in injury time in the FA Cup semi v's Arse most folk called us lucky. Why? A keeper did his job. No luck involved. Had Arsenal scored it in injury time I'm sure the same folk could have said Arsenal were lucky to get an injury time penalty. Lucky is when the ball takes a monumental deflection and goes in...or a dog runs on the pitch, leaps ten foot into the air and dods in the winner.

Softie.....WE talk about it while you lot talk of your 12 pointer. It was slightly different mind..two different types of run-in. We were 12 points behind with about 6 odd games to go while Arsenal were 13 points behind us with a lot more games to go.

LR, I've been saying this all season. We apparently had more spawn than a stream in April against Everton - apparently good goalkeeping and finishing are no longer part of the game. If the Championship was decided on possession, we'd have been in the CL in the past two seasons.

It wouldn't even come down to luck if Henry and Kanu had put away chances that anyone else could have scored

They should have been 3-0 up before Parlour get his red card, they can only blame themselves.

The best stat for me was shots on target

Arsenal 8 - 1 goal Newcastle 3 - 3 goals

GET IN!

Arsenal weren't "unlucky" - not when you miss chances like they did. We were only lucky in the sense of playing Arsenal on a night when Kanu couldn't have hit a cows arse with a banjo.

To be fair to us, how many really great saves did Given have to make? Arsenal's great football largely in their approach play. Their finishing was bloody appalling - and you're not unlucky when you lose in those circumstances.

I have a theory about the pen. If you look at the way Campbell hits the ball he simply pushes it a bit further in the direction it was already going. Usually when a player gets to the ball in those circumstances you can see it divert and the ref knows he's played it. I don't blame Poll for giving it. It was a tackle from behind, there was something of the lunge about it. The media would have been screaming for a pen if it had been on Henry. Why can't we just have some credidt for every single one of the players working their wasits off last night. Too much to ask I suppose.

Incidentally, I have lost all respect for Wenger after last night. If Dennis Wise is the most inappropriately named player then ARSEne Wenger is the manager with the name best fitted to his character!

Jacko re the pen, that's exactly what I said on another post, it seems obvious but not many have really considered it.
