Central Asian sports

Now that Central Asia is prominent in the news (who knew where Uzbekistan was before Oct 2001?), it is essential that we understand Central Asian sports.

Buzkashi is a no-rules polo played with a dead goat. It is the central event of Navrouz, a spring-equinox holiday celebrated in March. Navrouz predates Islam.

A gesture of goodwill would be to include Buzkashi in the Olympics. Thank you for your consideration.

Let's see the "Buzkashi" show: It is one of the old traditions of Uzbek people. The best "chavandozlar" (horsemen) physically strong and courageous men chosen from each village prepare for this ancient competition. Riders are required to catch up to the leader and take the dead goat from him. "Chavandoztar" are gathered at the starting line with horses. The manager of the "Buzkashi" throws the dead goat into the ring under the horses' hooves.

Is it OK to use a dead goat from the side of the road?
