tips on using Kodak B/W infrared film with M-6greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread |
Are there folks out there who have experience using Kodak infrared B/W film with Leica cameras? Any special tips on loading, metering, filter selection, shooting, processing? Thanks, Lewis

You should load the film in complete dark , so do some dry runs with exposed film first . Some lenses have an red infrared focusing mark , but from my experience , so long as you are shooting at infinity , it really should not matter . Metering with a red filter is fine with a ttl meter , if you use a handheld , compensate for the filter by hand . Here's an example of an ir shot : http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=215541hope this helps

A very similar question was asked one week ago. That thread is here:http://www.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=007LCQ
For developing in a small tank, I use Xtol 1:2 for about 20% longer than Kodak's recommended time.
I'm careful to load in a dim area, but I don't worry about doing it in total darkness--no problem so far.
There are metering and filtering suggestions in the earlier thread.
Another HIE example:
