BBC News:

Stuart Adamson, lead singer of the 1980s pop group Big Country, has been found dead in Hawaii. The 43-year-old's body was found in a hotel room yesterday, his manager said.

Adamson, originally from Dunfermline, Fife, went missing from his home in Nashville, Tennesee, several weeks ago. The former Skids guitarist had suffered from depression and alcoholism and also went missing in 1999. The band's best-known hit was In A Big Country.

How many will say in tomorrow's Sun that he was their inspiration and we've lost a great man? Sorry, don't mean to be cynical, but you wait. Saw them once, god knows where. They had pretentions of being a big 'stadium' band a la U2, but never really had the songs or the presence. Still, he went in that classic way of old forgotten pop stars, in a poxy hotel miles from home.

George Harrison managed two days of headlines before disappearing again: Adamson will get barely a mention unless there's drugs / slappers involved.

Thanks Benton. Jobson, I think.

Bound to be a rock trees thing now (if there hasn't been already), after Adamson's sad demise. I'm sure some of the Simple Minds and Visage bandmembers were ex-Skids, or the previous Adamson bands.

"Adamson will get barely a mention unless there's drugs / slappers involved."

Did someone say Michael Hutchence?

Saw his 11 year old daughter playing Annie in Dunfermline a couple of years ago. She was brimming with confidence and had a reasonable voice, had a look of her dad about her.

The local paper has been reporting him being missing, it'll be the headline in this small part of the world this week.

Sorry Pete...yes Jobson is right. Must have been thinking about my dear old mammy.

My brother, with an eye for a bargain, spotted "Big Country Classics" in woolies, he paid 99p for it thinking it was the group of the same name. Real foot-tapping ho-down stuff it turned out to be. I think he uncovered a George Benson tape aswell (instrumental).

Shook the fellas hand when I was in the front row at Reading (unfortuatley for Stuart it was the Hexagon, Reading rather than the festival). Great live band, at least 4 good albums (that'll be one more than U2 then)

I read he'd gone missing but assumed it was a Rockstar thing.

City Hall circa 1982. First and still one of the most enjoyable gigs I ever saw. RIP
