What are the Odds?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

If we win three-nowt tomorrow we're top. Can anyone find the odds for a 3-0 win? I've tried over the Internet but can't find the right place.

Must be AT LEAST 40-1? Now that must be worth a fiver, if only to show the Christmas Sprit.

Or even Arsenal Prediction.

1-1 (Bellamy)

I think 2:0 would do it, wouldn't it? Still completely unlikely.

Nick, the bookies make enough money without your hopeful contribution. Perhaps if Wenger does an 'Allardyce' (qv) and we get the rub of the green, a generous referee and a dose of flu for the entire Arsenal squad, we maybe, just MAYBE get away with a 2-0 loss.

Personally, I think we'll draw.

No really, can anyone find me the odds of us winning three nowt? I do fancy a fiver.

Nick...you can get 80-1 on a 3-0 Newcassel win via:

www.eurobet.co.uk

...and almost certainly the same odds in your local High Street Coral bookies...though I think 80-1 is a bit stingy. William Hill go a whopping 176-0, for eg, on a 3-1 Toon win and 81-0 on a 2-1 black and white victory.

By the way, the William Hill website quotes a 3-0 United win as "impossible" - not a comment on Bobby and the boys, just that the odds aren't available for 3-0! I'd do some Christmas shopping down the High Street if I was you. Most of the major chains should be offering odds on Arsenal being stuffed 3-0. I fancy Arsenal 1 Newcastle 2 meeself.

Ta for that Benton. Guess I'll be in William Hill after work then?

Actually mught try bettingn over the Internet. Have you tried it before Benton? Is it a painless process and can you trust the buggars to pay up?

-- Anonymous, December 17, 2001

impossible? i reckon its harder than that.

-- Anonymous, December 17, 2001

Nick - once you've set up an account (takes a few mins) it's painless...apart from the fact that you don't get your money back if you lose. And, yes, they do pay up when you win.

Usual rules apply: 1) Don't bet more than you can afford to lose. 2) The bookies always win in the end...just like Newcastle in London. You might also want to check out the excellent SmartBet site via: www.racingpost.co.uk

As long as we don't try to get a bleeding draw: we just can't do it when we set out to do it. Accept our limitations: Henry is going to skin our defence and we won't match them in midfield. We should, however, be able to score against them with our pace against their occasionally crap defence. Then who knows what will happen?

This morning I closed my Newcastle Premiership points spread bet. I bought at 54 and have sold at 58.5, on the basis that that's as high as the spread's going to get for a while. Go on boys, prove me wrong. It does still seem a bit stingy actually - even if we were to lose the next two games, our points/game average projected over the rest of the season would give still us 63.

Gav, on Wednesday, I agreed that we would win, 30 seconds before JFH scored so really I should know better ;)

Dan, you're right to do it with the games we have ahead of us. They seem to take the view of an expected 2 points fomr home games and one from aways, and we have two hard away games. If we got no points then the catching up required from future games probably means the 58.5 won't reappear until mid January.

The Betfair site is excellent and you always get value for money, (better odds than the bookies offer) but it isn't simple and needs you to 'play' for a while before committing too much money.

Generally if there are no odds advertised then the bookies are covering it with 100-1. This means if you go and ask for us to win 3- 0 at Highbury, or 5-0 at Highbury they'll offer 100-1. Hence no poor bookies !!
