Jobs

Well, jobs of any kind are scarce around here. Lot's of people out of work, too. But we have noticed that there are many employment opportunities in the Kansas City area. What do you all know about the area? Any info about KC that you could give us would be helpful. Thanks!

Hi, Jean! The job market in KC is very good. We live about 45 miles southwest of KC - far enough to be out in the country, and close enough to make a trip to the city if we have to. The traffic in KC is HORRIBLE - I hate it - and the people drive like maniacs! Of course, it's that way in nearly every big city I've lived in. I would steer clear of Johnson County (especially Overland Park) if I were you. It's the southern part of KC on the Kansas side. It's the county where you can't hang out your clothes to dry or have artificial flowers outside your home. Very uppity part of town, and WAY overpriced as far as housing is concerned. If you're looking for land, you do have to get a ways out from town. Like I said, we're 45 miles south of KC, just south of a little town called Osawatomie. We love it here! We have 40 acres, and it's very nice and quiet. If you're not opposed to driving an hour or so each way (assuming you'll be working in KC), it's a nice area to look at. Linn County (just south of us) is also nice, and the prices are cheaper, and there's not as much regulation as there is here in Miami County.

I know there are some other Kansas folks on this forum who I'm sure will be able to give you more information. Just remember, Johnson County (Overland Park) is a nice place to work - but you DON'T want to live there! :-)

Thanks, Cheryl. I'd like to know about the weather, too and from all of you in both Kansas and Missouri. Please! We may take a trip to the area next month to have a look.
