Rangefinder square in M3

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I just acquired a M3 and noticed the range finder rectangular square is not dead center within the brightline frame but lean slightly towards the upper frame line. Is this normal for M3? My M6 rectangular square is dead center within the brightline frame. Your comment will be greatly appreciated

On my M2 the RF spot is high, and on my M4-2 it's dead center.

I noticed a similar situation with my M2. While in for servcing I asked about this and was told it is normal. Mine is slightly low.

Hi, Tim:

I just went and focused both my M3s against a tile covered wall in order to check that issue and both focusing rectangles are vertically centered though one of them needs a slight vertical adjustement of the rangefinder.

Though I couldn't say what practical comsequences the off center rectangle could mean I trust somebody here will be able to tell you.

But if you can focus your camera the right way, go and enjoy. It is a jewel in camera disguise !
