Leicaflex SL meter didn't work

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I just did buy a second hand Leicaflex SL, but, by putting in a new 1.3 v bat. the meter needle stand fix at one quarter from the bottom point, changing the light conditions has no effect on the meter position. Can someone tell me what's going wrong, shall i send it to Leica for repair. Sorry for my english I am from Belgium. thanks romain

Romain, first of all, to activate the meter you need to wind the shutter and then pull the winder lever out to the stop. THat switches on the meter.

Also, there is a black button on the pentaprism cover, which is to test the battery. Look through the finder, push the button. If the needle doesn't move, you probably have a bad electrical connection. Look in the battery compartment, make sure the brass contact is clean, very carefully lift it up a little and put a small piece of tissue underneath it with tweezers, replace the battery and try again.

However if the needle moves rapidly to the other end of the scale when you push the test button but doesn't move when you meter, you probably have a bad meter cell.
