We may be doing well in the league but imagine if...greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread |
if...
a) Robert was fit and on form
b) We had a commanding midfielder
c) Elliot was a bit better

where would we be?

the assumption in all of this is that the opposition don't improve in the mean time.Sunderland only needed a couple of players to improve from 7th. They've managed to get Reyna and McAteer, losing Huthcison in the meantime and have gone backwards.
Man U strengthened with Veron and RVN.
There has always be a weakest link. If it wasn't your three suggestions then it would be a more mobile forward than Shearer, then yet another commanding midfielder, then a real right back, then an error free commanding centre half, then a Bellamy who didn't get booked for mouthing off .......

You're spot on about the opposition MacBeth. Both Man U and Chelsea have been very inconsistent and the way the league looks, any team stringing together a decent run will power to the top. We have to keep going but without at least one addition we might fall off the pace.
