So it is. And it's raining. Yuk.

It's raining here too. It's been raining forever. And it's like 66 degrees. It's really weird. And a little disconcerting.

Happy Birthday to Vince Chao!

Y'all, I'm still at home. Bad, Bad Joey Chao was supposed to be here at 8 to keep the still-sick Madeleine.

I hate him.

Also, it's raining here too.

Being a ninny, and on his brother's birthday no less.

-- Anonymous, December 13, 2001

Hell. What's your number? Actually, it doesn't require a phone call. I just want to say I sending Master V a birthday present. Gift certificate from guitar center. It stupid. Only enough to buy one string and maybe pick.

-- Anonymous, December 13, 2001

817/861-1150. Oh, how quickly you forget.

Vince Chao LOVE anything from Guitar Center!

Have we discussed that "two month salary" rule for the engagement ring? I think that is CLAZY. I mean... depending on one's salary, especially. Actually, considering the MOC's salary, it's not such a bad rule...

By the way, if the MOC ever does give me a ring, which will be after all of you are married with children and grandchildren, I am going to by him an engagement Vespa. They opened a Vespa dealership (they call it a "boutique" across the street from us) and he is dying for one. He says "I can ride it to work! And I can pull up to stop signs and look at people and say 'Ciao!'"

That's not stupid, that's a great gift!

Okay, I think I may have this Christmas gift thing in order. I think that I'll get gifts for my family this weekend and I can bring them to New Orleans when I head down there on Monday. Rather than hauling gifts to DC, Chris and I will just buy the gifts for his family when we're up there (we get there on 12/21). Solutions! Make me happy.

Joh - I just got an email from Caroline - she's through with finals and wants to get together when you're down here.

The MOC i>needs a Vespa. Can you imagine??

The two month's salary thing is a crock of shit. Damn DeBeers!

-- Anonymous, December 13, 2001

Wait, do y'all think it's bad or good? Because if Vince Chao had bought my engagement ring on two months of the grad assistant salary he was making when we got engaged, I would be wearing a Service Merchandise Special.

-- Anonymous, December 13, 2001

I think it is a marketing ploy in some cases, but then I think that the kind of person who goes to Zales to buy a ring wiht Two Months Salary only has a salary of about $700/month. In which case, the months salary won't get you a whole lot of ring. But for a guy who makes $3000/month, two months salary can be a bit excessive, since you shouldn't buy a diamond retail, anyway.

-- Anonymous, December 13, 2001

Y'all know I'm getting a ring from Service Merch, right?

Anyway, I was thinking of it along the marketing ploy lines as well. Consider the salaries of doctors and attorneys. A $7,000 ring is clazy. Also, it puts so much pressure on the buyer.

I just saw an ad that said the 2-month thing, is why I even brought it up.

A $7000 ring isn't crazy if it's the Lucida cut from Tiffany.

I'm just saying.

The first ring on the second row. This ring is all kinds of Merch. I mean, THREE stone shapes and two-toned?

See, Tiffany rings are whack expensive. So are their bands. So sad, the expensive Tiffany rings. For a classic cut in a traditional setting, like round or oval or emerald, I don't know why anyone would go to Tiffany - you can save so much by going through a broker.

-- Anonymous, December 13, 2001

I think a 1 ct. Lucida is like $15,000. Which does not negate the fact that I want one.

I read in Mademoiselle's final issue, also the Engagement issue, that if the average 30 year old spent 2 month's salary on a diamond, he'd spend around 6,500 whereas the actual average amount spent on an engagement ring is 2,500. So there you go.

What DO you want Al? I just want Teri's ring. Maybe I steal off finder while she sleep.

Yes, tell Caroline I'd love to see her.

-- Anonymous, December 13, 2001

finder? I'm dum.

-- Anonymous, December 13, 2001

I think a Vespa is a great engagement gift.

-- Anonymous, December 13, 2001

Okay, here's the bag I want.

What do y'all think??

Joh, wait till you see my wedding band - it's so pretty, I want to elope so that I can wear it NOW!

Just go ahead and buy the bag, already! You've finished your shopping, so buy it for yourself!
