New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani says he wants to start his own business when he leaves City Hall

By Associated Press, 12/12/2001 17:23

NEW YORK (AP) Mayor Rudolph Giuliani said Wednesday he is working on a plan to set up his own business and ruled out an immediate return to politics.

''I'm not shutting the door on being involved in elective office or appointed office in the future, but I am right now that isn't where I see my life going for a while,'' said Giuliani, who leaves office Dec. 31.

The Republican refused to discuss details of his business venture saying he was ''only at the formative, very early stages of talking about it.''

The Daily News reported Wednesday that the company would be a consulting firm advising businesses on management, strategic planning and investments. The employees of Giuliani's proposed firm, according to the paper, would include his chief of staff, his counsel, a top political adviser, and the city's fire commissioner.

Asked about the report, Giuliani said: ''It does accurately describe a plan that I have.''

The mayor also has a $3 million two-book deal with Talk Miramax. One book will focus on management issues; the other will be an autobiography.
