Focomat 1c grey

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Dear Focomat owners, I just picked up a 1c grey with white base and a focotar 2 lens. Any advice in the care and correct use of this machine would be appreciated.I have a 1" easel but it seems the autofocus needs to be ajusted...does anyone have an instruction book for this model to be able to enable this? If you could copy this...let me know what funds you need to get. And what is the range of autofocus? Right now it seems to be at around 10x14 at the lowest setting on the enlarger colume. This dosnt seem to be of much use for larger than 8x10 prints with cropping. It does seem to be a well made machine though. I think I still like my Valloy 2 a little better .It will probably take a little time to get used to this focomat 1c. Thank you,

I had one of these focomats a couple of years ago, I traded it for a D- 2 with cold light (for larger formats). But mine was used my the local paper when they made prints, now it's all digital at the paper. Mine worked great, make great prints and was very easy to use. Autofocus worked great too, after I set it up. I'm sure you can get a copy of the instructions somewhere, maybe even Leica. Maybe, try John Craig (try a search engine), he seems to have all the instruction manuals. Hope this helps.

Here is the page of the instruction manula in German :
A very free translation or how I work : First the lens must be mounted and a negative inserted. Put the head on 10x enlargement and focus using ring b. Then lower the head to obout 2,5x enlargement and focus using screw e. Make sure cam g is free after you unscrewed d. Repeat the 10x and 2,5x enlargement to finetune the focusing. Finaly screw in d again and it will focus correctly.
