Anyone think S&N should release a special edition of Newcastle Brown with some Valium in it?

It would be perfect for nights like this :)

Don't you mean they should put MORE valium in the borwn?

-- Anonymous, December 12, 2001

Even better idea :)

That'd mean they'd have to reopen the Broon Ward at the General.

does anybody on here like NBA. seriously, its absolute gut rot. i know it bears the toons name and it used to be on the shirt etc. but deleberately putting that stuff inside your body via yor taste buds is taking things a bit too far.

when i was a kid in college i ordered a bottle from the student bar as a salutation to the home town. took two swigs and used the rest to clean my bike.

The ambievence must be correct gb, the temp, the glass(schooner),the perfected pouring, yes I do like nba but I am afraid the problem is that the whiskey and nba are a agressive double act, add a packet of of John Tudors and I`ll climb a moontin

Howay, it's lush stuff, especially when it's dead cold on a hot summer's day. After 8-10 bottles the punches don't hurt anyway ;-) Trouble is, for the price of it in most pubs it's not worth it.

The introduction of lager into the uk , way back , was singulary the most damming thing that has happened in my lifetime, discuss !!!!

-- Anonymous, December 13, 2001

Well, when drinking lager I can usually end the night still standing and still somewhat able to remember what happened the next day. When drinking Broon, I'm finished after 3-4 so short night and feel like hell the next day(Wembley semi comes to mind..bleurgh). ;-)

draft lager in the uk tastes like alcoholic syrup.

why are lager type beers so damm good in germany & holland and so bad in britain.

i still say nba is poisonous mind

-- Anonymous, December 13, 2001

Don't know about Holland but German beer has to be brewed using malt, water and hops only by law. Our stuff has a a boatload of chemicals in it which is what knacks ya heed.

-- Anonymous, December 13, 2001

But it's the chemicals that make it so goooood, man. Pumpin' tunes. Kickin' it and havin' it large. Big up style. Selecta. Bo. Wicked 'n wiley and seriously funky. Mixin' it up. etc...

tried and tried to like NBA but it just isn't ncei stuff

on the making you ill stakes, I adored Ex but suffered for it, Scotch had same effect at the time, but an easier day the next day.

worst time I ever had was a night out in Bath. no way i was going to be taken in by this reputed scrumpy stuff, next morning work up with blood on arms, stinking hang over but proud i could remember buying the 3rd round (of 4) (and 2 pints of Ex/Scotch has me well gone), problem was we'd had 6, and then gone on to a club where i'd fallen down some stairs after a couple of pints. I was carried 'home' and dumped on the floor of the girl i was staying with (school friend from Whickham), in the morning her bf appeared at 6 o'clock (?!) in the morning, went beserk cos i was in her bed and she was on the floor, we smiled in a deep understanding that we had no idea how we had ended up where we were, but also in a deep understanding nothing could have happened

NBA is nectar, man. What's wrong with ye?

I do genuinely like the stuff but it does leave a killer hangover. It was easy to get in Spain a couple of years ago as it was quite trendy but it seems less popular now. You can only get the little bottles as well, not the proper ones.

That said, I found some in a supermarket here 2 weeks ago and emptied the shelf. Wor lass was v. pleased with me as she helped me carry them from the car.

At least I think that's what she said. My Spanish sometimes lets me down...

NBA is nice stuff, but we've just got a crate of the stuff in on special from Safeway I think, too expensive in pubs, but still good stuff.

Valium in Broon, then it'd be 'a little bit'o Broon alwez calms ya doon'? It took me a good while to get over the hangover bit, it all of a sudden it stopped though. Still has a strange mezmorising affect after three. Used to drink Ex too, could the sweetest nectare anywhere or could be beer invented by the spawn of some horrible gool at it's worst... Brit lager, bland fizzy. Brits are the same with coffee (nah not fizzy) though, I think Brit people like it like that???

Used to drink dog, scotch and on a few occasions ex, back yhem. In the larger stakes I really enjoy Redstrip, fosters and castlemain xxxx (can't get it over here though) of course when I used to go to the studio of a frida and satda neet it was a pint of white wine and a splash of soda (shudder) that would kill off the chance of me pullin, coz I was so shitfaced I could hardly stand up. Dem woz the days.

There's nowt wrong with a chilled half glass of Dr Brown...and then several more. Does anyone remember Amber Ale? I was always under the impression it was a trainee Brown for young uns, so that they'd be ready when they were old enough to cope with the full Blue Star.

-- Anonymous, December 13, 2001

Yes. It was sh1te.

-- Anonymous, December 13, 2001

I think in conclusion that NBA will never be matched by the absolutely perfection that is SBA

-- Anonymous, December 14, 2001

I have the occassional NBA for old time's sake but I'm a real beer man now.... so no Ex/scotch etc.. One good thing about living down south is that the beer is better. It's improving in the NE with Mordue etc.. but it's still mostly chemicals on sale.

Try any Gales brew.

Never tried SBA

Ex was always a delight, but Black Sheep isn't bad. XB was my fav, but if I was in the mood to lose all sensation by 10.30 it had to be Old Peculiar or Old Speckled Hen. I love Guiness too, and luckily my fav pub in the village does a cracking pint of it :-) Which is why I got locked out of the house on Weds and spent 40mins finding and climbing a ladder to knock on the bedroom window for wor lass to let me in...hmmm
